Health Care in New York

The United States has big amount of the latest technology, including many of the best medical schools, clinics, hospitals and worldwide research centers. But on the other hand, it doesn’t count with a universal health care system.

The health care system in USA is characterized by contradictions and complexity. The great American conflict is to have one of the largest, expensive and complicated healthcare systems in the world and, on the other hand, more than 42 million Americans have minimum access to health resources.

The three largest problems of the healthcare system are:  The System Administration of social security, political influence on the reform proposals and contradiction between the cost of the health system and services offered.

However, the United States counts with significant publicly funded components. Medicare covers the elderly and disabled people, the State Children's Health Insurance Program covers children of low-income families and Medicaid is available for some, but not all of the poor families. The Veterans Health Administration directly provides health care to U.S. military veterans through a nationwide network of government hospitals. These tax-financed programs cover 27.8% of the population and make the government the largest health insurer in the nation.
