The New York’s food culture has been influenced by the different dining patrons of the various ethnic groups that have entered the United States through the city.
New York is a restaurant Mecca, with more than 20,000 restaurants, every block seems to house at least one, thanks to the abundance of restaurants; visitors can find both exotic food and down-home cooking nearby to you. There are many types of restaurants, ranging from the street food stalls serving traditional hot dogs, to the most expensive and exclusive restaurants that offer the finest haute cuisine in the United States, where make a reservation in advance is an obligation, even in the hottest spots, reservations need to be made months in advance.
The New York City Restaurant Week is a popular event which takes place twice a year in January and June/July to entice both residents and visitors to experience some of New York’s finest food at a fraction of the regular price of the dishes. Approximately 200 world class restaurants; such as Alto, Alfama, 21 Club, 5 Ninth; take part in the popular “Restaurant Week”, you may need to book a table at some of the most popular participating restaurants. For loving food visitors, there is no doubt that New York City Restaurant Week is the best time to visit New York City.
Tipping is obligatory; the amount is at least 15% or 20% for average service, the easiest thing to do is to double the tax on the bill. Some restaurants include a service charge on your bill, check the bill carefully and if the service charge is included, there is no need to tip. Smoking is not allowed in any restaurant in the city, some restaurants allow light up at back-gardens adapted for this. Leave $1 per item for the checkroom attendant.
